3 Reasons Your Site Traffic Isn't Growing

Published: June 30, 2026 6 min

When your site’s traffic isn’t growing, the cause usually isn’t just one thing. It breaks into three: you’re not found in search, you’re not cited in AI search, and visitors who arrive don’t convert — that is, problems of search, AI, and conversion, alone or layered together.

I’m Naohiro Hayashi, creator of Soreda!. I built a tool myself that diagnoses search (SEO), AI search (GEO), and conversion (LP) together, and have run it. From that experience, I’ll lay out why stalled traffic spans three directions, and why you need to look at the whole.

Your traffic isn’t growing because the cause isn’t just one thing

When traffic stalls, pinning the cause on one thing usually misses. The problem tends to span several directions at once.

”SEO alone” or “design alone” often won’t fix it

Narrow it to “let’s just do SEO” or “let’s redo the design,” and that part improves while overall traffic doesn’t budge. Fix one spot, and if another is the bottleneck, results don’t come. The instinct to pick the one fix you’ve heard about is understandable, but it rarely matches where your site is actually weakest.

Traffic involves search, AI, and conversion

Site traffic involves three stages: (1) are you found in search, (2) are you cited in AI search, (3) do arrivals convert. If any one is clogged, the overall result hits a ceiling. That’s why you need a view that takes in all three at once, rather than looking at whichever one happens to be top of mind.

The three reasons your traffic isn’t growing

The reasons sort into search, AI, and conversion. Let’s look at each symptom.

Not found in search (an SEO problem)

If you don’t rank in search to begin with, your site isn’t found. This is a search engine optimization (SEO) problem. The reasons you don’t rank and how to find them are covered in Why Your Site Isn’t Ranking, and How to Find Out.

Not cited in AI search (a GEO problem)

More people now get information from “AI answers” like ChatGPT and AI Overviews. Some studies even predict that, as AI search spreads, organic search traffic will fall 25% by the end of 2026 (Gartner). If you’re not cited in the AI’s answer, you miss this new entry point. This is an AI search optimization (GEO) problem, covered in What Is GEO? SEO for the AI Search Era.

Visitors arrive but don’t convert (a conversion problem)

Even when people find you via search or AI and arrive, an unclear page won’t turn them into inquiries or sign-ups. This is a post-visit conversion problem — that of your landing page (LP). Improving your LP is covered in How to Diagnose Your Landing Page for Free.

Looking at the three separately won’t show the whole

Checking the three causes separately doesn’t reveal your site’s whole problem. What matters is looking across all three to see which is the biggest bottleneck.

The local-optimization trap

Fix one angle, and if another is the bottleneck, the overall result doesn’t move. Grow search traffic, but if the page after arrival is unclear, sign-ups won’t rise. “Local optimization” — improving only one part — doesn’t move overall traffic. It’s like pouring more water into a bucket with a hole: until you find the hole, the extra effort drains away.

Diagnose the three together first

That’s why diagnosing search, AI, and conversion together, to see where the whole is weak, is the shorter path. How to diagnose all three at once is covered in How to Diagnose Your Whole Site at Once.

FAQ

Q. Which of the three matters most? A. It varies by site. It’s decided by the balance of the three, so it matters to look at the whole and pinpoint the weakest angle first.

Q. Do I have to do all of them? A. You don’t need to tackle everything at once. Diagnose first, pinpoint which angle is weak, then set priorities. A diagnosis shows your current state and priorities, not a guarantee of traffic or conversions.

Q. Can I see the whole picture myself? A. Grasping all three at once isn’t easy, since each lives in a different place and uses different signals. Seeing them together in a diagnosis makes the whole picture easier to hold.

Q. How much does it cost? A. Site diagnosis is ticket-based, counted per run. See the official site for current details.

Your site’s traffic isn’t growing because the cause is in one — or several — of search, AI, and conversion. Fix only one and the whole won’t move. Start by looking at all three together and pinpointing the biggest bottleneck.
