How to Use AI-Generated UI (and Caveats)

AI-generated UI is a “design image” — it becomes production only once implemented. What AI produces is a reference for the screens, not a production-ready screen you can use in development as-is. You save the cost and time of producing screen images, but turning it into production needs implementation such as coding separately, and usability isn’t guaranteed.

The value of AI generation is producing screen images (references) fast, and in plural. Rather than working out screens from a blank page, you firm up a direction while looking at references. Position it as a tool that “accelerates producing screen images.”

Firm up the screen direction; use it to align with the developer

A generated reference works as material for deciding the screen direction internally, or for aligning understanding with the developer. Since you can show a concrete screen, your understanding aligns more easily than explaining in words alone.

Implementation (coding / building) is separately required

Turning a design image into a working system requires implementation — coding and building — separately. You can do it yourself, or commission a developer. What AI saves is the cost of producing “screen images,” not the implementation work itself.

It’s also swayed by the quality of implementation and the fit with the actual work. Rather than assuming “this UI will be easy to use,” the stance of implementing and verifying matters.

Good UI varies by user and task

What counts as good UI varies by who uses it and what work it’s for. A screen that’s easy to use in one workplace won’t necessarily be easy in another. Compare several references, choose what fits the work of the people who’ll actually use it, and confirm in real use.
